The Mboya Nicholson Quartet performs both originals and those stalwart songs that have transcended eras, embedded in popular culture as standards. The group embraces the guitar piano combination which is not often utilized in today’s jazz groups. Influenced by the impact of artists like Nat Cole and Oscar Peterson in regard to their use of guitar/piano combinations, the Mboya Nicholson Quartet utilizes the tradition of that sound, and explores what can be done with it, through repertoire that includes the music of everyone from Melba Liston to Duke Ellington to Mary Lou Williams, and many more.
