Friday Nite Live - Addison Wall

The Carrot Friday Nite Live presents Addison Wall – April 4

🎶 Live music starts at 7:00 pm | $10 Cover | All Ages 🎶

Addison Wall is a retrospective artist who blends the sounds of folk, swing, and blues music of the past. He is equally influenced by Laurel Canyon artists such as Jackson Browne or Randy Newman as he is by swing-era musicians like Django Reinhart and Duke Ellington. As a songwriter, his lyrics span from heartfelt folk tales about facing the world as a young man to jump tunes about escaping ominous woodland creatures. Addison has made his way onto many singer-songwriter lineups at Edmonton arts festivals and has been regularly sharing his songs through the café scene as well. He is currently working on his debut EP titled “Somewhere in Between” which is set to release in the fall of 2025. Outside of his solo act, Addison fronts the swing band “The Sour Keys” and is a member of the shoegaze/folk rock trio called “Magpie Mill.”

Friday Nite Live - Loud In The Pines

The Carrot Friday Nite Live presents Loud In The Pines – April 11

🎶 Live music starts at 7:00 pm | $10 Cover | All Ages 🎶

Loud in the Pines is an Edmonton-based indie-folk duo whose songs will transport you from the wide open prairies to the forests and cliffs they dream about. Musicians Spencer Taubner (vocals, guitar) and Kelin Flanagan (vocals, keys) deliver bittersweet, emotional music with seamless vocal harmonies and layered sounds. With a focus on thoughtful storytelling in cinematic settings, their approach to songwriting is heart-forward (and, often, tree-forward). In June 2023, Loud in the Pines released their first EP, bitter bright, recorded in their home studio. Their first full-length record, supported by the Edmonton Arts Council, is slated for release in May 2025. It explores intimate stories of place, community, and connection in soaring full-band arrangements.

Ruth Purves-Smith, author, and singer-songwriter, has had a remarkable journey in the music world. Born and raised in Calgary, Ruth had a unique upbringing. Her family ran a Custom Wool Mill, which her parents started in the 1970s. The mill, now managed by her sister, spun rich tapestries of creativity much like Ruth’s musical journey. Ruth received her first guitar in fifth grade, a Classical Espana, which accompanied her across the world, around campfires, and on horseback journeys. It has since been restored and remains cherished within her family. Her rural life in Swalwell, Alberta, fueled her passion for songwriting and storytelling. She found a sense of belonging in this tight-knit community. Ruth’s music spans genres, from country to Celtic-infused folk rock. Ruth released her first album in 2010, followed by her second in 2016. Her third album, featuring all original songs, just dropped August 16th, 2024. Ruth’s live performances are captivating. Having toured extensively, she honed her craft while touring North America and Europe. Her compelling lyrics and restless, rhythmic sound resonate with audiences. Ruth Purves Smith’s life has been a symphony of creativity, resilience, and heartfelt melodies.

Friday Nite Live - Darian King | Jan Baker [Double Bill]

Live music starts at 7:00 pm | $10 Cover

The Carrot Friday Nite Live presents Darian King | Jan Baker [Double Bill]

Darian King

Darian King is a singer/songwriter originally from the south east corner of Saskatchewan where Treaty 4 meets Treaty 2, Darian is a proud Métis two-spirit person who began teaching themselves guitar at a young age and started writing their own songs at 15, now many years later they feel songwriting has became their greatest outlet of expression. Indigenous and queer, seeking refuge in a sea of sad little acoustic songs. Since Darian grew up in such a small town as a queer person they never felt like they fit in, Darian is always just trying to create a space where we can all belong together.

Jan Baker

You might think that the clarity and ease with which Jan portrays her message in song comes naturally; it is a gift but Jan has perfected her style through years of training, starting at the age of 13 with private vocal lessons. At the age of 16, Jan was fronting folk groups and singing backup on television specials and at recording studios. Midlife saw Jan performing with Edmonton Musical Theatre and Caviar Drama Players. Jan released her first CD “IN GOOD TIME” in 2007. Family life has always taken precedent in Jan’s life and after some major life incidents in 2007, it has been family first, music second. You may be lucky to catch Jan performing in various group configurations at a folk club or festival, Christmas party or even a coffee shop. Don’t miss out!
