Her works resonate with beauty and strength, delighting viewers through her unique artistic interpretations.

Oliver R. Rabara

Oliver Rabara is a hybrid artographer in the fine arts, cultural research, and development administration. His 30+ years of professional practice allowed him to work with various artists, institutions, and governments. Oliver currently writes in two Edmonton newspapers about business and the role of art in development. In this exhibit, his “Novo Cubism” twists Picasso’s traditions by composing in layers and displaying a breadth of coloring techniques from transparent, translucent, and opaque. His works are generally poetic and philosophical relative to abstract socio-realism.  Being a member of The Palette Club, he hopes to attract art agents, co-artists, and potential sponsors for collaborative projects in the future

Gallery Exhibition Date: August 1st - September 2nd

Artist Statement:

Sometimes it is big, shining moments of triumph that define us, sometimes, it is the small, consistent ways that we show up to our lives every day, and sometimes it is simply the fact that we held on and made it through at all.

This collection showcases five women who embody these three forms of resilience, along with pieces of nature that embody that resilience as well.

Artist Bio:

I am an artist and educator based in St. Albert, Alberta, Canada. I create realistic charcoal portraits and nature-inspired paintings from my cozy (and sometimes chaotic) home studio.

Creating art helps me to better understand and appreciate the world around me. My hope is that it will do the same for those who enjoy my work. It is my goal to share as much meaning and beauty as I can with others

Artwork will be on display from August 1 - September 2. Please join us for the opening reception on August 8 at 7 pm.

Eunju Park

Artist Statement and Bio:
After living in Canada for the past decade, I started to feel a disconnect to my heritage and wanted to explore traditional artifacts in an attempt to reconnect with my Korean roots. This is where I discovered using Hanji as an art medium. Hanji is beautifully woven paper produced from the inner bark of mulberry Trees, this amazing paper is soft yet as durability that can last over 1000 years. I tear Hanji and embed encouraging and optimistic messages in Korean characters into the imagery. The process of creating Hanji Art is extremely therapeutic for me, and my art aims to share the beauty and richness of my Korean heritage and to spread positivity.

Eunju’s work will be on display from May 2 - May 27. Please join us for the opening reception on May 3 at 6 pm.

Joanne Guthrie

Artist Bio:
I am a professional welder and mixed media artist from St. Albert. My art practice is a combination of exploration and experimentation. I use a variety of mediums in my collections: sculptures created from scrap steel to artworks formulated from organic ingredients. Nature inspires me. I burn wood to make charcoal, mix inks from wild berries and make paper from cattail leaves. I love making my supplies from scratch. I see discarded objects around me as a challenge to create something meaningful and elegant. The process inspires me, and I believe art has the power to impact change. I believe we can repurpose the resources nature gives us and use them to provoke meaningful conversations about nature and our environment.

Artist Statement:
"Bird's Eye View, Nature: An Emanation of Perfection" derives from a deep appreciation for nature's brilliance and the endless patterns and formations found in the wild. This collection consists of Scrap Metal Sculptures of birds and bugs and Embroidery on Handmade Paper, representing the birds amongst the trees and clusters of flowers in delicate bouquets. The works use simple straight lines and geometric shapes to achieve their sense of clarity and beauty. The carbon steel structures come together like puzzle pieces, each revealing the profiles of birds only as a reward for a determined gaze. The longer you look, the more each piece discloses, much like how the longer we stare at the forest, the more details of life begin to emerge.

Sabine Hahnel

Sabine loves being outdoors, forever looking for the next inspiration, to catch a glimpse of that something that makes her heart skip a beat. Nature is what she loves most for her subject matter and where she finds most of her ideas. She attempts to capture the beauty of this wonderful world using bright bold colors and textures combined with a contemporary, impressionistic approach. For Sabine, the beauty of painting is the freedom to alter reality to make it the way she would like it to be. Roots of this desire go back to her formative years living in a restrictive system in East Germany. She currently works as a Critical Care Nurse and paints in her spare time.

Sabine’s work will be on display from February 28 - April 1.
