Rhythms of the Earth: A Celebration of Black History Month
This February, Deep Freeze is proud to present the Rhythms of the Earth Visual Art Gallery, showcasing the talent and stories of two remarkable artists: Gabrielle Songolo and Khiry Tafari.
Gabrielle Songolo
A Grade 12 student at Mother Margaret Mary High School, Gabrielle channels her vibrant outlook on life through acrylic on canvas. Her art celebrates vivid colors, reflecting her optimism and hope for the future. Gabrielle’s work often explores themes of nature, vulnerability, and human connection, aiming to bring people together through her creative expressions. As a young Black woman, Gabrielle uses her art to share her perspective and invite viewers into her journey of self-discovery and shared experience.
Khiry Tafari
A multi-talented artist with deep roots in African Canadian and Jamaican heritage, Khiry is a creative force in Edmonton’s community. Known as half of the award-winning rap duo Locution Revolution, his artistic expression spans music, visual art, dance, and acting. From hosting community events to teaching Hip Hop culture and contributing to major art festivals, Khiry’s work is a testament to his dedication to culture, community, and creativity. His visual art, featured at events like 5 Artists 1 Love, embodies the rich history and vibrant stories of his heritage, inspiring connection and pride.
Celebrate Black History Month by immersing yourself in their extraordinary work. Each piece in the gallery is available for purchase, with proceeds supporting the Deep Freeze Festival.
Come admire the creativity, share in the stories, and experience the Rhythms of the Earth.
