Artist Bio:
I am a professional welder and mixed media artist from St. Albert. My art practice is a combination of exploration and experimentation. I use a variety of mediums in my collections: sculptures created from scrap steel to artworks formulated from organic ingredients. Nature inspires me. I burn wood to make charcoal, mix inks from wild berries and make paper from cattail leaves. I love making my supplies from scratch. I see discarded objects around me as a challenge to create something meaningful and elegant. The process inspires me, and I believe art has the power to impact change. I believe we can repurpose the resources nature gives us and use them to provoke meaningful conversations about nature and our environment.

Artist Statement:
"Bird's Eye View, Nature: An Emanation of Perfection" derives from a deep appreciation for nature's brilliance and the endless patterns and formations found in the wild. This collection consists of Scrap Metal Sculptures of birds and bugs and Embroidery on Handmade Paper, representing the birds amongst the trees and clusters of flowers in delicate bouquets. The works use simple straight lines and geometric shapes to achieve their sense of clarity and beauty. The carbon steel structures come together like puzzle pieces, each revealing the profiles of birds only as a reward for a determined gaze. The longer you look, the more each piece discloses, much like how the longer we stare at the forest, the more details of life begin to emerge.

Sabine’s work will be on display from April 4 - April 29. Please join us for the opening reception on April 5 at 6 pm.
